State Council Meeting of UP Secondary Teachers’ Association Concludes at Jai Narayan PG College, Lucknow

Lucknow: The State Council meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh (UP Secondary Teachers’ Association) was held at Jai Narayan PG College, with key discussions focused on long-standing issues affecting teachers across the state. The meeting was chaired by State President Chet Narayan Singh, while General Secretary Aniruddh Tripathi conducted the proceedings.

Addressing the council, Chet Narayan Singh—also a former Member of the Legislative Council (MLC)—demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government ensure compliance with court directives regarding ad-hoc teachers. He warned that if the government fails to act, teachers would be compelled to launch statewide protests, from the streets to the legislative assembly.

As a mark of protest and to press for solutions, Singh announced that on March 18, memorandums would be submitted to Joint Directors of Education and District Inspectors of Schools (DIOS) across all divisions and districts of Uttar Pradesh.

He further called upon office bearers from all 75 districts and 18 divisions to attend the Provincial Conference scheduled for April 15–17 in Bareilly in large numbers. “The future of teachers will be collectively discussed during the conference, and a roadmap for the next phase of the struggle will be drawn,” Singh added.

Speaking at the meeting, State Patron and MLC Raj Bahadur Singh Chandel expressed disappointment over the government’s neglect of teachers’ issues. “I have raised these matters consistently in the Legislative Council, but the government continues to ignore the plight of teachers. It is time for educators to realise their strength and unity,” he said.

Provincial Vice President Markandeya Singh voiced concern about the future of the teachers’ association, urging the younger generation to step forward and take leadership roles. “We must visit every school and form dedicated teams of committed workers. Special emphasis must be placed on expanding membership in all districts,” he emphasized.

State Minister Sanjay Dwivedi raised several critical issues including corruption in the NOC process for online transfers, the need for salaries and service security for unaided teachers, the updating of the National Pension System (NPS), and the timely payment of pensions and GPF to retired teachers.

The meeting witnessed the presence of a large number of prominent figures, including former MLC Lavkush Mishra, Swaraj Pal, Mahesh Chandra Sharma, Dr. Major Devendra Singh, Rakesh Singh, Pramod Singh, Ramānand Dwivedi, Prabhat, Narsingh Bahadur Singh, Narendra Singh, Shravan Kumar Tiwari, Sudhakar Singh, Dhananjay Singh, Munna Mishra, Ashok Chaurasia, Mahesh Ram, Ajay Pratap Singh, Gulab Chandra Maurya, Rajesh Chaudhary, Jyotish Kumar Pandey, among hundreds of teachers from across the state.
